After three weeks and 33 witnesses by the prosecution, Conrad Murray's defense team is finally set to present its case to the jury.

But first, the defense will continue cross-examining propofol expert Dr. Steven Shafer -- who last week testified that a propofol overdose was the "only scenario" that could explain MJ's death.

Leading Propofol expert Dr. Steven Shafer -- the final witness for the prosecution -- told the jury, Dr. Conrad Murray corrupted his patients ... because now, they're all terrified of Propofol.

He told the jury today -- "I am asked every day I'm in the operating room ... 'Are you going to give me the drug that killed Michael Jackson?'"

In his review of Dr. Murray's conduct, Shafer testified he found 17 "egregious violations" of standard medical care that contributed to the singer's death.

* Last Thursday, Shafer told prosecutors he was hired 20 years ago by the company that produces Propofol to calibrate the correct dosing for the drug.
* Shafer said the exact dosage of Propofol is crucial -- because even a slight discrepancy could be the difference between a patient sleeping for a few minutes, and one sleeping for several hours.
* Jurors then watched a video that showed how Propofol should be used in the OR. The clip showed nurses and doctors successfully reviving a patient -- played by an actor -- suffering from a cardiac arrest. Prosecutors were trying to show the jury Dr. Murray was not equipped to handle an emergency situation when he treated MJ.
* Shafer explained to the jury that Jackson probably died because his tongue blocked the back of his throat ... but could have been saved with a simple chin lift.

* As the video was played, Dr. Shafer gave a blow by blow how Propofol is administered.
* Shafer's key points:
- Infusion of drugs should be done ONLY through a pump to avoid overdosing.
- "Informed consent" is not just a piece of paper but a process in which the doctor informs the patient of all the risks, benefits and alternatives.
- A verbal consent is NOT binding.
- Record keeping is paramount
- If the patient stops breathing, the first thing a doctor should do... call for help.
* Shafer told prosecutors even when administering "a little bit" of Propofol, guidelines should be strictly followed because the worst disasters occur during sedation ... when doctors "cut corners."
* Shafer said Murray's treatment of MJ is both an "egregious" and "unconscionable" violation of standard care.
* He also called the 15.5 liters of Propofol Murray bought -- about four gallons worth -- "an extraordinary amount" for one person.
* Shafer said Murray's lack of basic and essential monitoring devices are an egregious violation of care and contributed to MJ's death.
* The fact that Murray never kept any records is "unbelievable," according to Shafer.
* He said Murray "left the steering wheel" when he went to bathroom to relieve his bladder calling the doc "quite clueless."
* Shafer told prosecutors there is practically no research on Propofol use to treat insomnia ... adding, "We're in a pharmacological Never-Never Land."
* Shafer took a shot at his former colleague and friend, defense expert Dr. Paul White... telling the court he was "disappointed" to learn that White thought MJ could have died from drinking Propofol. Shafer went over several studies on rats, dogs and even humans that show the drug doesn't work when it's swallowed.
* Shafer also bulked at the defense's argument that Jackson may have caused his own death by swallowing 8 pills of Lorazepam ... because the toxicology report showed the amount of Lorazepam found in MJ's stomach was "trivial." According to his calculations, Murray would have had to inject MJ with 10 consecutive shots of 4 mg each to reach the the blood levels in the toxicology report.
* Dr. Shafer debunked another theory by the defense, telling jurors there is no way Jackson woke up and then injected himself with a fatal dose of Propofol. He said people don't wake up "hell-bent" on grabbing the next dose, calling it a "crazy scenario."



* Shafer said the only theory that fits is this: Murray started MJ on a 1000 mg Propofol drip at around 9 AM ... which caused the singer to stop breathing around noon.
* Had Murray been in the room he would have noticed MJ's breathing slowing down around 11:45 AM and could have saved him by stopping the drip.
* In a dramatic moment, Shafer demonstrated to the jury how, he believed, Murray set up a Propofol drip ... inserting a Propofol bottle into an empty saline bag.
* Shafer said Murray never used an automated pump, which caused the anesthetic to drip at a dangerous rate. The defense claims Murray only gave MJ a single dose of 25 mg of Propofol with a syringe on the day the singer died.
* Defense attorney Ed Chernoff came out swinging during cross examination, challenging Shafer's testimony from Thursday in which he said there is no way Jackson killed himself with either Propofol or Lorazepam. "That's a bold statement isn't it?" Chernoff "asked " ... "That's what I think happened," Shafer shot back. "Everything you said is an opinion..." Chernoff said... to which Shafer responded, "To say that one should not lie to UCLA Medical Center is my opinion."
* Chernoff tried to discredit Shafer's testimony ... saying the IV tubing he used in his demonstration was not found at the scene. Shafer said Murray could have easily shoved it in his pocket before leaving MJ's room.
* Chernoff also pointed out Shafer used the wrong size syringe and IV bag in his demonstrations. Shafer brushed it off, saying he didn't think "size mattered."
* Chernoff also asked Shafer about his relationship with Dr. Paul White, the defense's Propofol expert... asking him if it's true that he nominated White for an "Excellence In Research" award. Shafer said he did.

La clip ha mostrato infermieri e medici che con successo risvegliavano un paziente - interpretato da un attore - che soffrono di un arresto cardiaco. I procuratori stavano cercando di mostrare alla giuria che il dottor Murray non era in grado di gestire una situazione di emergenza, quando ha trattato MJ.
* Shafer ha spiegato alla giuria che Jackson probabilmente è morto perché la sua lingua ha bloccato il posteriore della sua gola ... ma avrebbe potuto essere salvato con un semplice sollevamento del mento.

* Poiché il video è stato giocato, il Dr. Shafer ha dato un colpo su colpo come Propofol viene somministrato.
* Shafer punti chiave:
- L'infusione di farmaci dovrebbe essere fatto solo attraverso una pompa per evitare un sovradosaggio.

* Murray ha detto Shafer il trattamento di MJ è sia un "egregio" e la violazione "irragionevole" di cura standard.
* Ha anche parlato dei 15,5 litri di Propofol che Murray ha acquistato - circa quattro litri - "una quantità straordinaria" per una persona.
* Shafer ha dichiarato che la mancanza di dispositivi di monitoraggio di base ed essenziali sono una violazione di cura e ha contribuito alla morte di MJ.
* Il fatto che Murray non è mai mantenuto alcun record è "incredibile", secondo Shafer.
* Ha detto,Murray, "ha lasciato il volante", quando andò al bagno per alleviare la vescica chiamando il doc "del tutto all'oscuro."
* Shafer ha detto ai pubblici ministeri non c'è praticamente nessuna ricerca sull'uso del Propofol per curare l'insonnia ... aggiungendo: "Siamo in un farmacologico Never-Never Land".
* Shafer ha dato un colpo al suo ex collega e amico, esperto della difesa, il dottor Paul White ... raccontando alla corte che era "deluso" di sapere il suo pensiero, che MJ poteva morire bevendo il Propofol. Shafer andò su diversi studi su ratti, cani e anche gli esseri umani che mostrano che il farmaco non funziona quando viene ingerito.
* Anche gonfiato le argomentazioni della difesa che Jackson possa aver causato la propria morte per ingestione di 8 pillole di Lorazepam Shafer ... perché il rapporto tossicologico ha mostrato la quantità di Lorazepam trovati nello stomaco MJ era "banale". Secondo i suoi calcoli, Murray avrebbe dovuto iniettare a MJ 10 scatti consecutivi di 4 mg ciascuno per raggiungere i livelli ematici nel rapporto di tossicologia.
*Il Dr. Shafer ha smentito un'altra teoria dalla difesa, dicendo ai giurati che non c'è modo che Jackson si è svegliato e si è poi iniettato una dose fatale di Propofol. Ha detto che la gente non si sveglia "inferno piegato" alla ricerca della dose successiva, definendolo uno "scenario pazzesco."

* Shafer ha detto che l'unica teoria che si adatta è questa: Murray a MJ ha iniziato una flebo di 1000 mg di Propofol alle circa 9 AM ... che ha causato al cantante di smettere di respirare intorno a mezzogiorno.
* Se Murray sarebbe stato nella stanza si sarebbe accorto che la respirazione di MJ stava rallentando attorno 11:45 e avrebbe potuto salvarlo interrompendo la flebo.
* In un momento drammatico, Shafer ha dimostrato alla giuria come, secondo lui, Murray ha impostato una flebo di Propofol ... l'inserimento di una bottiglia di Propofol in una sacca salina vuota.
* Shafer ha detto che Murray non ha mai usato una pompa automatica, che ha causato che l'anestetico a gocciolato a una velocità pericolosa. La difesa sostiene che Murray ha dato a MJ solo una singola dose di 25 mg di Propofol con una siringa il giorno che il cantante morì.
* L'avvocato difensore Ed Chernoff è venuto fuori oscillando durante l'esame incrociato, sfidando la testimonianza di Shafer di Giovedi in cui ha detto che non c'è modo che Jackson si è suicidato sia con Propofol che con il Lorazepam. * Chernoff ha anche sottolineato che Shafer ha usato la siringa sbagliata dimensioni e borsa IV nella sua dimostrazioni. Shafer ha spazzato via, dicendo che non pensava che la "dimensione fosse importante."
* Chernoff ha anche chiesto Shafer del suo rapporto con il Dr. Paul White, esperto di Propofol della difesa ... chiedendogli se è vero che ha nominato White per un "Excellence in Research" premio. Shafer ha detto che lo ha fatto.

The prosecution just rested its case in Dr. Conrad Murray's trial -- now Murray's team will almost immediately attempt to make its case ... that the doc is not guilty.

Lead prosecutor David Walgren and his team called witnesses for almost four weeks before passing the baton to Murray's defense.

Murray's first witness was a quickie -- with Beverly Hills PD Communications Director Donna Norris discussing the 911 call the day Michael Jackson died.

Big Problem With MJ Surveillance Tape

Lawyers for Dr. Conrad Murray are insinuating ... the LAPD did a sloppy job retrieving evidence from Michael Jackson's surveillance cameras the day the singer died -- failing to make copies of crucial footage before it was erased.

The defense's second witness -- a surveillance specialist for the LAPD named Alex Supall -- just testified, he only handed over a few minutes of surveillance footage to investigators, showing MJ arriving home for the last time at around 12:45AM on June 25th, 2009.

As TMZ first reported, Murray's lawyers have had a big problem with how investigators only recorded a small fraction of surveillance footage from that day -- and demanded to see the entire 24-hour tape.

Specifically, Murray's lawyers want to see who entered MJ's house during that period -- footage that could prove their theory that evidence in the house was tampered with.

Problem is ... the cameras run on a 24-hour loop -- so, Supall testified, if the footage hasn't been transferred ... it's replaced with new footage and cannot be retrieved.

Supall said he only copied those few minutes to establish a timeline of when the singer returned home after his last rehearsal on June 24 -- everything else is gone forever.

Avvocati per il dottor Conrad Murray sono insinuanti ... la polizia di Los Angeles ha fatto un lavoro scrupoloso di recupero di prove dalle telecamere di sorveglianza di Michael Jackson il giorno in cui il cantante è morto - non riuscendo a fare copie di filmati cruciali prima che fossero cancellati.

Secondo il testimone della difesa - uno specialista di sorveglianza per la polizia di Los Angeles di nome Alex Supall -che ha solo testimoniato, ha consegnato solo pochi minuti di filmati di sorveglianza agli investigatori, mostrando MJ che arriva a casa per l'ultima volta verso le 00:45 il 25 giugno, 2009.

Come riportato da TMZ prima, gli avvocati di Murray hanno avuto un grosso problema di come gli investigatori hanno registrato solo una piccola frazione di filmati di sorveglianza, da quel giorno - e ha chiesto di vedere l'intero nastro di 24 ore.

In particolare, gli avvocati di Murray vogliono vedere chi entra in casa di MJ durante quel periodo - filmati che possono dimostrare la loro teoria che le prove in casa sono state manomesse.

Il problema è ... le telecamere hanno eseguito su un ciclo di 24 ore - così, Supall ha testimoniato, se il filmato non è stato trasferito ... è sostituito con nuovi filmati e non possono essere recuperati.

Supall ha detto che solo copiato quei pochi minuti per stabilire una linea temporale di quando il cantante tornò a casa dopo la sua ultima prova il 24 giugno - tutto il resto è andato per sempre.
