Victory Tour Press Conference (July 5, 1984)

On July 5, 1984, on occasion of a Jacksons’ press conference at former restaurant, "Tavern on the Green", in New York City, USA, Michael Jackson expresses his disagreement on the American Victory Tour’s high prices and announces that he would donate his entire share of money to charity. He declares: “We're beginning our tour tomorrow and I wanted to talk to you about something of great concern to me. We've worked a long time to make this show the best it can be. But we know a lot of kids are having trouble getting tickets. The other day, I got a letter from a girl in Texas named Ladonna Jones. She'd been saving her money from odd jobs to buy a ticket, but with the current tour system, she'd have to buy four tickets and she couldn't afford that. So, I've asked our promoter to work out a new way of distributing tickets, a way that no longer requires a $120.00 money order. There has been a lot of talk about the promoter holding the money for tickets that didn't sell. I've asked our promoter to end the mail order ticket system as soon as possible, so that no one will pay money unless they get a ticket. Finally, and most importantly, there's something else I am going to announce today. I wanted you to know that when I first agreed to tour, I decided to donate all the money I make from our performances to charity.”

Il 5 luglio 1984, in occasione della conferenza stampa dei Jacksons all' ex ristorante "Tavern on the Green", a New York City, USA, Michael Jackson esprime il suo dissenso sui prezzi elevati del Victory Tour in America e annuncia che lui avrebbe donato la sua intera quota di denaro in beneficenza. Egli dichiara: "Stiamo iniziando il nostro tour e volevo parlarvi di qualcosa che mi preoccupa molto. Abbiamo lavorato a lungo per rendere questo spettacolo il migliore possibile, ma sappiamo che un sacco di ragazzi stanno avendo difficoltà a pagare i biglietti. L'altro giorno, ho ricevuto una lettera da una ragazza del Texas di nome Ladonna Jones, ha risparmiato i soldi da lavori saltuari per comprare un biglietto, ma con il sistema attuale del tour, lei avrebbe dovuto acquistare quattro biglietti e non poteva permettersi questo. Così, ho chiesto al nostro promotore di elaborare un nuovo modo di distribuire i biglietti, un modo che non richiede più di un ordine di soldi pari a $120,00. Volevo farvi sapere che quando ho accettato di fare il tour, ho deciso di donare tutti i soldi che avrei guadagnato dagli spettacoli in beneficienza".
